Butane Cracking Process: Valve closing.

 

This calculationis designed to solve for the pressure created in a pipeline when the downstream mainline valve is closed. This surge pression is in addition to the normal operating pressure of the pipeline.

If the surge pressure is excessive, the line may fail. Thus it is essential during design of pipelines to ensure proper pipe pressure rating and piping structural strenght, including surge pressure and dynamic loads.
